Allah says in verse 11 of Surah Ar-Ra’d, which means: Indeed, Allah does not change what is with a people until they change what is in themselves.
The full verse, Surah Ar-Ra’d verse 11, is as follows:
| { لَهُۥ مُعَقِّبَٰتٞ مِّنۢ بَيۡنِ يَدَيۡهِ وَمِنۡ خَلۡفِهِۦ يَحۡفَظُونَهُۥ مِنۡ أَمۡرِ ٱللَّهِۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوۡمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُواْ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمۡۗ وَإِذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِقَوۡمٖ سُوٓءٗا فَلَا مَرَدَّ لَهُۥۚ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ مِن وَالٍ } For each one there are angels before him and behind him, guarding him by Allah’s command. Indeed, Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allah wills harm for a people, none can turn it back, and they have no protector besides Him. |
One party can never change the fate of another party. Only the decision that party makes, to change its own fate, can.
When God says “Allah does not change… until they change what is in themselves”, it is a reminder for everyone.
No one has the power to determine someone else’s life. Only that person determines their own life.
Denying this means stepping over that boundary. Be confident at all times: what is weighed is not the result, but the effort towards good.
By nature, a person wants good for himself. And whoever wants good for others will always be fighting this fact of life.
Because sometimes a person fights his own nature, deciding badly for himself, wanting only the short pleasure that doesn’t last.
A decision weighed for short-term comfort makes life pleasant for a moment, but loses out and makes things hard for yourself in the long run.
That is what people are.
A person who oversteps — fighting his own nature, which wants good for him, by taking a quick pleasure and sacrificing his own fate over the long term.
People will do as they please.
