Yes 5G is currently (at the time of writing, 4th May 2025) the cheapest and most generous mobile data provider, which is why I’ve been using them since May 2023, especially for their Yes Power 35 plan. However, today marks my decision to leave Yes 5G.
A crucial factor in this decision is the absence of VoWiFi on my Honor X9b, as Yes 5G has not enabled this feature for my phone.
Lately, I’ve been making VoLTE calls frequently. Unfortunately, my experience has been quite poor. The calls often drop unexpectedly in the middle of conversations, forcing me to move around my home in search of a stable connection.
The situation becomes even more frustrating when dealing with calls from the Xiaomi Service Center. In these instances, I’m forced to rely on their callback system. Direct calls to their customer service number don’t allow for reaching a specific agent; instead, the call is always routed to a new representative (Xiaomi doesn’t provide an option for the service center to forward calls to a particular agent).
A frustrating aspect of this situation is that I do have a consistent internet connection at home through WiFi. However, this is rendered useless for making calls when the cellular signal is weak because my phone, the Honor X9B, is not included in Yes’s supported devices for WiFi Calling, according to their list last updated on October 2, 2024.

As a result of the issues with Yes 5G’s calling capabilities, I’ve moved to U Mobile’s Postpaid Plan 38. While this plan costs RM 3 more (without SST) and provides 30GB less data than Yes Power 35, the improved call reliability is a necessary trade-off for me.
Therefore, until I upgrade to a device that is supported for VoWiFi on Yes’s network, I will need to remain with U Mobile.
Do you know? VoWiFi allows you to make and receive Call & SMS even on Airplane Mode as long as you have WiFi connection. |
